Pocono Forest Fire Crew

As our home page indicated, the Pocono Forest Fire Crew is located in Carbon County, Pennsylvania; more specifically, Kidder and Penn Forest Townships where the majority of our crew members reside.

George Maehrer Jr. is our Forest Fire Warden and helping him with operating the crew are his sons Gary, George III, and Kevin, all of whom have been appointed as Special Assistant Forest Fire Wardens.  With them is a crew of 9 other men and women all dedicated to protecting the forest lands of Carbon County and we are always ready to welcome more.

Pocono Forest Fire Crew was established in the late 1960's and since that time, has responded to wildland fires in nearly every community in every corner of the Carbon County.  However, fighting wildfires is far less rewarding than preventing them and the Pocono Crew is at the forefront of wildland fire prevention, conducting several wildfire prevention programs every year.  These programs consist of carnivals, parades, press releases, public outreach programs, Smokey Bear presentations, and more recently, we have spearheaded the proliferation of FireWise in and around the Penn / Kidder area.  The Pocono Forest Fire Crew was also the first in the state of Pennsylvania to use Cyberspace to communicate the wildfire prevention message.

In the future, you can look for FireWise presentations in several formats, even Multimedia along with all the Smokey Bear we can muster, so please enjoy your visit to our home on the Web and please take your time and learn all you can.
